Collision Auto Insurance Coverage

Getting into a car accident can be a stressful experience.  Knowing what your insurance covers can help alleviate some of that stress and get you back on the road faster. At CrashFix Certified Collision Centers in Burbank and Los Angeles, we're here to help you understand your collision auto insurance coverage and guide you through the repair process.

What is Collision Coverage?

Collision coverage is an optional part of your auto insurance policy that helps pay for repairs to your vehicle if it's damaged in a collision with another vehicle or object, such as a tree or fence. It also covers damages if your car rolls over.

What Does Collision Insurance Typically Cover?

  • Vehicle Repairs: This includes repairing or replacing damaged parts, such as bumpers, fenders, hoods, doors, and even the frame.
  • Labor Costs:  The cost of labor for the repairs performed by a certified technician.
  • OEM Parts: In many cases, your insurance will cover the cost of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts, which are made by the vehicle's manufacturer.
  • Paint: If your car needs to be repainted after the collision, collision coverage typically covers the cost of paint and labor.
  • Total Loss: If your vehicle is deemed a total loss (meaning the cost of repairs exceeds the car's value), collision coverage will pay you the actual cash value of your car, minus your deductible.

What Does Collision Insurance NOT Cover?

  • Medical Expenses:  These are typically covered by your personal injury protection (PIP) or medical payments coverage.
  • Damage to Other Vehicles: This is covered by your property damage liability coverage.
  • Theft or Vandalism: This requires comprehensive coverage.
  • Regular Wear and Tear: Collision coverage only applies to damage caused by a covered collision.
  • Deductible: You'll need to pay your deductible before your collision coverage kicks in.
